Are Tritan and PCTG same?
In daily life, plastic products with a bright appearance, such as sports bottles, baby bottles, wall breakers, etc., may be made of Tritan material.
Some people will ask is the PCTG same as Tritan? In fact, it’s not really.
Tritan is a product launched by Eastman Chemical Company and has registered trademark by Eastman. Tritan was officially launched in 2007. It is precisely because of the excellent performance of Tritan that everyone has come into contact with PCTG in their lives.
PCTG, also known as modified PCT, is a general term for a class of polymers, which is a copolymer obtained by introducing a third monomer unit to modify PCT (that is, polyterephthalate-1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol). Tritan belongs to this group of copolymers.
So, "Tritan is PCTG, but PCTG is not necessarily Tritan", to paraphrase the slogan: "Not all milk is called Telunsu". That is, "not all PCTGs are called Tritan".
